Kentucky Governor Approves Sales Tax Holiday for Clothing and Shoes in 2010
April 2nd, 2009On 31 March 2009 Governor Haley Barbour signed HB 348 into law, creating an annual sales tax holiday exempting clothing and shoes costing less than $100 during the last weekend in July effective January 2010. The law gives cities the freedom to opt out of the holiday if they notify the State Tax Commission.
Energy Star and Firearms Tax Holidays Denied Upon SC Supreme Court Ruling
March 16th, 2009On 4 May 2009 the Supreme Court of South Carolina declared that Act 338 is unconstitutional in its entirety because it violates the one subject rule. As part of Act 388, South Carolina will not participate in the month long energy efficient sales tax holiday during the month of October or the guns and firearms holiday that was to occur for one weekend in August.
Oklahoma Moves Back to School Tax Holiday to the House for Vote
March 11th, 2009Oklahoma Senator Barrington’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday bill (SB 723) passed through the senate with overwhelming approval 9 March 2009. It has now moved to the house to be read and approved. Previously clothing and shoes under $100 could be purchased free of tax during the holiday period, if SB 723 is passed the sales tax holiday will be expanded to include school supplies and reference materials. The Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will take place during the first week in August.
Mississippi House Passes Retail Clothing Tax Holiday
March 3rd, 2009On 25 February 2009 the Mississippi House passed HB 348, which would create a sales tax exemption on retail sales on certain clothing during the last weekend in July. If the bill passes in the Senate and is approved by the governor it will go into effect in 2010.
Missouri Announces “Show Me Green” Sales Tax Holiday for 2009
February 17th, 2009Missouri Revised Statues Section 144.526.1 created the “Show Me Green Sales Tax Holiday.” Beginning in 2009, during a seven day period starting on April 19th and ending April 25th, sales of qualifying Energy Star certified new appliances will be exempt from state sales tax. Local jurisdictions can also choose to participate in the Show Me Green Sales Tax Holiday.
