Idaho House Committee Votes Down Streamlined Sales Tax Project Participation

On 18 March 2010, the Idaho House Revenue and Taxation Committee voted 9-9 against sending representatives to participate in discussions for the Streamlined Sales Tax Project.  After being presented with the many changes to the current state sales and use tax laws that would be required to belong to the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement, the committee voted in a tie, which kills any bill.  The changes would have included levying an “Amazon” tax, reimbursing retailers who collect sales tax, and about 36 other changes to Idaho’s current sales tax laws.

Ponderay City Resort City Tax Proposal Fails

In February of 2009 Ponderay City Council had approved a resort city tax increase of 0.5%, which would have raised the resort city sales tax to 6.5%.  This proposal failed to gain enough approval and did not make it to the voting stage.

Ponderay City Council Approves Resort City Tax

February 17th, 2009

Ponderay city council unanimously approved a resort city tax increase of 0.5%, raising the city sales tax to 6.5% 2 February 2009.  City residents must now vote for this increase to become law 17 February 2009.  If passed, the new tax will be in effect for 15 years, or until Ponderay reaches a population of 10,000.
