March 23rd, 2010The Piggot Health Care Facilities Board has requested a 1% local sales tax be levied, to fund the local hospital. The request has been backed by the members of the Piggot City Council which were present at the 8 February 2010 meeting. The Council plans to have measure on the 18 May, 2010 primary election ballot.
Farmington, AR Voters Will Consider a Sales Tax Increase
March 23rd, 2010The Farmington, AR City Council has decided to put a 1% sales tax increase on the ballot in a special election, which has yet to be determined. The sales tax proceeds would go to fund a new baseball complex. Farmington voters defeated a similar sales tax measure to fund a new baseball complex in 2008.
Sherwood, Arkansas Voters to Potentially Decide on 1% Sales Tax Increase in May 2010
January 27th, 2010Voters in Sherwood, Arkansas may be asked if they are willing to have a 1% increase in the sales tax for two years. 18 months of the increase would fund a new, larger library, and 6 months would be used to fund an animal shelter. The Central Arkansas Library System is currently taking phone opinion polls and a public forum was held in January 2010.

September 29th, 2009Voters in Benton, Arkansas will vote on a proposed 0.05% sales tax on 10 November 2009. If approved, the sales tax would become effective 1 April 2011. The sales tax revenue would be used to fund the city’s public safety departments.
Arkansas Officially Lowers its Grocery Tax
March 6th, 2009On 18 March 2009 Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe signed SB 88, now Act 436 of 2009, into law. This act will lower the state sales tax on groceries from 3 percent to 2 percent effective 1 July 2009.
Grocery Tax Reduction Bill Held Up in Arkansas House
February 24th, 2009SB88 proposing a 1% decrease to the state sales and use tax rate levied on the sale of food and food ingredients is being held up in the house after quickly passing through the Senate. An element in the hold up is a competing bill filed on 12 February 2009 by Representative Frank Glidewell to reduce this rate to 0.125%.
House Passes Bill for a New Back to School Sales Tax Holiday
January 26th, 2009On 1 April 2009 HB 2202, passed a vote in the house and is now advancing to the Senate. HB 2202 would create a one day tax exemption for clothing that costs less than $75. If passed the holiday will take place during the first Saturday of August and would recur each year.
