The Gilbert Town Council in Arizona narrowly approved the inclusion of a 0.25% sales tax increase on the 18 May 2010 ballot. If approved, funds from the sales tax increase would go to fund public safety, which is defined as police, fire, court and prosecutor office services.

Booneville, AR residents will vote on a 1% sales tax renewal on 18 May 2010.

A special election will be held on 13 April 2010 in which Searcy, AR voters will vote on the levy of an Advertising and tourism promotion tax.

A bill which exempts the purchase of firearms from West Virginia’s 6% sales tax during the first weekend of each October has been approved by the Senate. Governor Joe Manchin expressed concerns about the state’s revenues. He agreed to give the bill a full review, but would not rule out the possibility of a veto.

The Piggot Health Care Facilities Board has requested a 1% local sales tax be levied, to fund the local hospital. The request has been backed by the members of the Piggot City Council which were present at the 8 February 2010 meeting. The Council plans to have measure on the 18 May, 2010 primary election ballot.

On 27 March 2010, voters in Jennings, LA will decide whether to renew a 1% sales tax which currently funds police, fire, and public works. The measure will not be presented as a renewal on the ballot for legal reasons, but the tax itself has been collected since 1978.

The Farmington, AR City Council has decided to put a 1% sales tax increase on the ballot in a special election, which has yet to be determined. The sales tax proceeds would go to fund a new baseball complex. Farmington voters defeated a similar sales tax measure to fund a new baseball complex in 2008.

The Missouri Senate is debating a bill to enact a “Fair Tax” that would phase out the state income tax over several years and replace it with a sales tax as high as 7 percent.

Voters in Maine will have the opportunity to veto a tax reform on the June ballot.  The law lowers the top income tax rate, expands the sales tax to new goods and services and raises the meals and lodging tax.

The City of Tulsa is considering collecting their own sales taxes, rather than continuing their service with the Oklahoma Tax Commission.  The commission currently collects taxes for every city and county in the state.
