Florida County Will Remit Taxes to DOR

Effective 1 October 2009, all dealers in Wakulla County required to collect the 2% tourism tax must remit all tourist development taxes and sales and use taxes directly to the DOR.  All taxes collected up to 30 September 2009 will still be remitted to Wakulla County.

Ordinance Introduced in the Bethel Borough to Retain Current Sales Tax Rate

The current sales tax rate in the Bethel borough of Alaska of 6% is scheduled to decrease to 5.5% on 29 January 2010. In an effort to retain the current level of sales tax revenue, Bev Hoffman introduced an ordinance which would keep the sales tax rate at 6%. If the City Council passes this ordinance, it will be included on the 6 October 2009 ballot.

Fond du Lac to Consider Sales Tax Increase

The county of Fond du Lac in Wisconsin is considering imposing a sales tax. Fort du Lac is one 11 counties in Wisconsin that does not currently have a sales tax. The issue of whether to add a sales tax was preliminarily discussed at the 11 August 2009 Finance, Personnel, and Economic Development meeting. The proceeds of the sales tax increase will fund a plan to keep Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac. The Fond du Lac County Council is scheduled to discuss the plan and sales tax increase on 10 September 2009.

Maine Tax Amnesty Program Set to Begin

Maine residents will be allowed to participate in a Tax Amnesty program beginning 1 September 2009 and lasting three months, during which time delinquent taxpayers may pay past due taxes and receive a reduction in penalties of up to 90 percent.
